Week Two (End)

Hi everyone!

Last time, I promised I would not built another plane using the bricks of the City set I bought at the beginning of the week. Happily, I have managed to keep my word, as I had the idea to create a boat. You could argue, given the original model is an seaplane, the "floating" component of the idea was not that hard to get to. But that would not be very nice to me, would it?

Anyway, I am rather proud to present the super-fast racing boat I have been building. I had to keep the general structure (two floaters and around the cabin), but I tried to give a very dynamic look to the ship. I also wanted to use the helix at the rear of it, as I felt this way I will move farther away from the original structure. I also had enough bricks to make a couple of buoys to go along with the boat. I hope you will enjoy the photos!

I have to admit I have absolutely no idea what I am going to buy next week, but I am sure I will figure it out, at least once at the store...
Stay tuned!

Week Two (Continued)

Hi everyone!

Last Tuesday, I bought a small aircraft and as the week went buy, I was trying to build something else out of the same bricks. While last week I had a very little building freedom -it was nearly impossible to build anything else than a car, trust me- I have a lot more options open this time. However, the cool creation I would like to share today is... an aircraft!

I was trying to build a Naboo-styled ship, but I ended up constructing something really different from what I had planned. I am pretty happy with the result though. There is only one thing I could not sort out: I have two solutions for the "nose" of the plane, and I cannot determine which one looks better. Anyway, here are a few pictures:

The "Big Nose" version:

And the "Antenna" one:

That is all for today! I guarantee the next one will not be a plane!

Week Two

Hi everyone!

I stopped by my favourite Lego store on my way home tonight, to buy a box for the second week of this project. After playing around with a very few bricks for a week, I wanted a little more building freedom for the days ahead, hence a bigger box. So I chose the beautiful yellow and white hydroplane from the city collection.

As you would expect it, I opened the box as soon as I got home, built the model and took a few pictures for sharing purposes. You will notice that I did not use the stickers from the box, and that is because I think it will be easier for me to make a different use of the parts without them. Anyway, here come the photos!

I am already thinking about how to tweak it!
See you soon!

Week One (End)

Hi everyone!

As the week is coming to an end, I would like to share a few pictures of the last car I managed to build. As promised, I used only the bricks belonging to the small car I bought earlier this week. This time, I ended up with a classic batmobile-looking kind of vehicle (The one from the old cartoons, not the bulky one from the Nolan films...).

Anyway, I am a lot less happy about this one than I was about the previous, for using the "roof" as the hood of the car turned out to be pretty hard. Added to the limited number of parts available, that idea did not end up as good as the other. Okay, I will let you judge by yourself with the following photos.

I cannot wait to buy the next one!
Stay tuned!

Week One (Continued)

Hi everyone!

As the week is going on, I found some time to build around with the parts of the small car I have bought on Tuesday. And took a few pictures as well.

From the moment I had the box cracked, I wanted to use the "roof" of the car differently. I have managed to use it as the back of the car, using the parts that were supporting it to give the rear some depth...

Anyway, you can see the rest by yourself!

I have another idea to fool around with this car, I might be able to try it before the week-end...

Week One

Hi everyone!

I have spent a fair amount of time thinking about which box I will be buying first. I wanted to be meaningful and as cool as possible, but on the other hand I was afraid of getting too ambitious too soon. Finally, my decision was motivated by the fact that you do not ask a man who did not swim for 10 years to cross the Atlantic right away on his first day back at training.

So I went today to my favourite Lego Store, and went for the tiniest box I was able to put my hands on. It ended up being the Smart-like car. (By the way, Tuesday is the day that works best for me to go make my purchases down the Lego store, so I will probably buy a box every Tuesday). As soon as I got home, I cracked the pack and built it. Here are a few pictures:

I already have a few ideas to tweak this cute car, stay tuned for more pictures!

Oh! I forgot! I have £6,01 left for next week!

Foundation

Hi everyone!

This is the very first post I ever write on this blog, so you can understand how excited I am.

I came up with the idea of this blog a few weeks ago, when I actually realized I missed building cool things using Lego bricks. Not that I ever was tempted to buy a box or two, but with this blog, I intend to stick to a quite simple project: to buy one box a week, and build whatever comes to my mind with the bricks inside.

Of course, as you know the addictive component of every collection-based hobby, I have to establish a very straight rule on the money I will allow myself to spend each week. I have decided to add £10 a week to a "Lego Piggy Bank" every Monday. This way, even if I can save up the unspent money from one week to the following, I will never end up spending more than expected "just so I can get this way cooler box" (because there always is a cooler box).

The last rule I decided to follow is about building. I have chosen to restrict myself to the bricks belonging to the box purchased each week. I am truly convinced that this restrain will force me to put my imagination at work a little bit harder and find additional fun in the process. In the future though, as the collection will keep growing, I will probably allow myself to build more freely on the side of the main project, picking bricks from every box I own.

In the end, the most important thing I will keep in mind is fun, as building has to remain a pleasure.

Hope you will enjoy your visit!
